A Late Boomer
It is a strange feeling to have been born at the end of the Baby Boomer Generation. Those who were born after World War 2 are in full retirement years now, and I see this population as it continues to grow. They are out and about on the roads, in grocery lines, and flooding the tasting stations at COSTCO. I wonder how much I have in common with these folks being at opposite end of an era. They seem to struggle with technology years after its introduction, but then I figure that’s how I look to Gen Z, who move through a laptop like a fish through water. I wonder if there are cycles that have repeated through history related to generations. You know, did the Ancient Greeks sit around the park after retirement complaining that kids today can’t wield a spear the way they did? Did they complain about the way they wore their tunics, or how long they grew their hair? One thing is for sure, I doubt there has ever been a generation before today that had more expertise in one subject area than their elders. The older I get, the more a 14 year old continues to know about computers than I do.
