Love to the Rescue

Last week, we adopted two rescue dogs from a local shelter from the next city down our corridor. Their owner was sadly unable to continue caring for the pups due to ailing health, and wanted them shipped to an area outside Seattle, where, due to lower animal numbers, they could be kept in a safe no kill shelter. Since we had lost our beautiful Wheaton Terrier six months previously, we decided to take in the 10- and 11-year-old black poodles to fill the void left in our hearts. Right away, there was a deep gratitude from both Sammy and Benny. They wouldn’t stop jumping into our arms delivering a stunning array of kisses. They danced and spun, ran through the house climbing furniture, exploring, demanding our attention. Taking the duo for walks was a new dimension. Controlling two high-energy poodles who never sniffed the broad spectrum of farm smells before, caused them to pull at their harnesses like draft horses. As of this writing, they have begun to settle into a routine, knowing that when we leave, we will return, and continue to share our lives and our love with them. I can’t imagine keeping such wonderfully positive little beings in a kennel. For our pets have so many wonderfully beautiful things to share. How to love unconditionally, how to live in the moment, and how to soak up even a few rays of sunshine blissfully with rain on the horizon.
